Karnak Temple. A vast temple complex of towering columns by the Nile.
Abu Simbel. Colossal rock-cut statues of Ramesses II near Lake Nasser.
Wadi El Natrun. A desert valley of salt lakes and four ancient Coptic monasteries.

What people get wrong about Egypt

The flag question offers Libya, Sudan and Tunisia. Sudan is the trap: red, white and black bands like Egypt's, with a green triangle at the hoist. Egypt has no triangle and a golden eagle on the white band. Libya has a black band twice the height of the others with a crescent and star; Tunisia is a red field with a white disc. The outline is shown beside Libya, Sudan and Algeria, and all four are near-squares with ruled borders. Egypt is the one with the Sinai triangle on its eastern side and the Nile delta on the north coast.

There is no capital question for Egypt. Trivia asks the most widely spoken language, Arabic, and which country the Great Sphinx is in. In numbers we hold the population, 104 million, the area, 1,001 thousand square kilometres, and 1922, when Britain recognised Egypt as independent. Explorer has the Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, the Valley of the Kings, Luxor Temple, Mount Sinai and Alexandria marked easy. Karnak, Abu Simbel, Philae and Edfu are medium. Suez, Tiran Island and the Cairo Citadel are marked hard.
