What people get wrong about Japan

The flag question offers Bangladesh, Palau and South Korea. Bangladesh is a red disc on green; Palau is a yellow disc on blue; South Korea has the red and blue taegeuk with black trigrams. A red disc on white is Japan. The outline is shown beside the Philippines, Indonesia and New Zealand, all of them island chains. Japan is the long arc bending from Hokkaido in the north-east to Kyushu in the south-west, with Okinawa trailing off below.

The capital is Tokyo, asked by name and again as one of the world's largest metropolitan areas. Trivia asks for the currency, the yen. In numbers we hold the population, 124 million, and the area, 378 thousand square kilometres. Explorer marks Mount Fuji, Tokyo Tower, Itsukushima Shrine and Kinkaku-ji easy. Ginkaku-ji, Tokyo Station, Arashiyama and Kegon Falls are marked hard. Minamitorishima is the one to remember: a coral island about 1,800 kilometres south-east of Tokyo, and the easternmost point of Japan.
