Russia spans 11 time zones — flying from Moscow to Vladivostok takes about 9 hours but crosses a full working day's worth of time change.
Lake Baikal. The world's deepest lake, its Siberian surface glassy with winter ice.
The Motherland Calls. An 85-metre statue of a woman with a raised sword, memorial to the Battle of Stalingrad.
Teletskoe. The 'little Baikal', a deep mountain lake in the Altai.

What people get wrong about Russia

The flag question offers the Netherlands, Slovakia and Slovenia. All four are white, blue and red. The Netherlands puts red on top; Russia puts white on top. Slovakia and Slovenia match Russia's order and add a coat of arms near the hoist, so a plain tricolour with white on top is Russia. The outline is shown beside Canada, China and Kazakhstan. Russia is the widest shape we have, with Kamchatka hanging off the eastern end.

Trivia asks which continent most of Russia lies on (Asia), the currency (the ruble), which country ties with Russia for the most land borders (China, with 14), and which is the largest country by land area (Russia). In numbers we hold the population, 145 million, the area, 17,098 thousand square kilometres, and the Yenisei, Lena and Amur rivers. Explorer marks St Basil's, Lake Baikal, Derbent and Mount Elbrus easy. Big Diomede, in the Bering Strait, is the one most players pin in Alaska.
