Did you know

Spain is the second-largest country in the EU by area. It still has two cities (Ceuta and Melilla) on the African continent that are fully part of Spain.
Toledo. A hilltop city loop by the Tagus, ringed by medieval walls.
Ronda. A white town split by a deep gorge and a stone bridge.
Guggenheim Museum. Gehry's titanium-clad museum curving along the river.
Alicante. A Mediterranean port with the Santa Bárbara castle on a rock above the beach.
Royal Palace of Madrid. Western Europe's largest royal palace, with more than 3,000 rooms.

What people get wrong about Spain

The flag question offers Portugal, Italy and France. Portugal is green and red with the arms at the seam; Spain is red, yellow, red with the arms towards the hoist. Italy and France are vertical tricolours and are only picked by accident. The outline is shown beside Portugal, France and Morocco. Spain is the big square with the Balearics to the east; Portugal is the strip cut off its western edge. If you can see the strip is missing, it is Spain.

The capital question is Madrid. The trivia asks which country is famous for flamenco. In numbers we hold the population, 47 million, and one date that belongs to Spain by way of Mexico: independence from Spain in 1821. Explorer is where Spain surprises people. The Sagrada Família, the Alhambra and Park Güell are marked easy, but the pack also holds Melilla la Vieja and the two Peñones, Vélez de la Gomera and Alhucemas, all on the African coast and all Spanish. Teide and Garajonay are in the Canaries, off Morocco, and count for Spain too.
