Italy quiz

Italy is in every kind of quiz we make, and 42 Explorer photos are Italian, more than any other country. The boot is the easiest outline on the site. The flag is not, because Ireland and Hungary use the same three colours.

Did you know

Italy is home to the most UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the world (58), and contains two independent countries entirely within its borders: Vatican City and San Marino.
Vernazza. Pastel houses stacked above a tiny harbour on the Ligurian coast.
Positano. Pastel houses cascading down a cliff to the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Matera. Ancient cave dwellings, the Sassi, carved into a ravine.
Arena of Verona. A Roman amphitheatre still used for open-air opera.
Ostia. The ancient harbour city of Rome, its streets and warehouses still standing.

What people get wrong about Italy

The flag question offers Ireland, Hungary and France beside Italy. Ireland is the trap: green, white and orange, with the orange easy to read as red on a small screen. Hungary runs the same red, white and green horizontally. France shares the vertical layout but starts with blue at the hoist. Read the first stripe. Green means Italy or Ireland; then check the last one.

Few people miss the outline. The boot, with Sicily at the toe and Sardinia off to the west, is shown beside Greece, Spain and Croatia and still gets named on sight. The capital question is Rome, but we also ask which capital contains Vatican City, and the answer is still Rome. In Explorer, the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain and the Grand Canal are marked easy. Matera, Positano and Vernazza are where the pins land wide. Stromboli, Vulcano and Lampedusa are islands most players have never had to place.
